Gabriel Orozco. Breath on Piano. 1993
Chromogenic colour print. (16x20)

Looking at everything to do with breath, literal and metaphorical. The bodily presence relates to my drawing work (balloon 'breathing' in and out with my own breath in it), something I want to explore and take further in studio. The role time has in this work also interests me. The natural length of the action adds to the idea of 'breath', as each breath we take has its own duration.

Presentation for mid-year assesment

(06/2012). Powder ink and starch on canvas. (1000mm x 1400mm)

I wasn't too convinced by this work when I set it up for mid-year assessment. Now, I'm convinced that it definitely doesn't work. It could be due to the colour of the background (which when seen personally is slightly too yellow). I tried focusing on the 'breath', but it still is to compact, and cluttered to bring forth a dialogue focusing on 'breath'.

Through the format and layout I wanted to break away from the conventional presentation of a 'painting' since I don't consider it one. However, this didn't work as I intended it to either...  Time to move out of 2D imagery and into space!

Talk week presentation

Powder ink and starch on wc paper (122 x 86cm each) (06/2012)

Conversation on 'breath'. Small sections (or
explosions) as in the bottom left corner of the right hand side image, seen as more successful than lines created by other means. They create the atmosphere. Moving on, exploring different possibilities related to format and presentation.
